Who We Are:
The Philadelphia Urban Creators (PUC) are a group of young change agents in North Philadelphia, building relationships with local communities in order to develop our urban landscapes sustainably, and equitably, from the ground-up.
We are, first and foremost, a youth-led organization. The overall vision that we are striving to create, however, is in no way exclusive to young people. Therefore, we focus on using our young energy and ambition in coalition with our adult partners and the residents of the communities that we are active in, so that we can collectively create local solutions to the global problems that are facing us all.
The Philadelphia Urban Creators (PUC) is a youth-driven organization empowering inner-city youth to harvest and enact visions for the transformation of blighted landscapes into accessible models of urban sustainability. Through community organizing, urban agriculture, and entrepreneurial service-learning, we engage citizens in environmental revitalization efforts that utilize local resources to build self-sufficiency and pioneer grass-roots economic development.
We are a triple bottom line social enterprise, with the goals of:
1) Educating, Energizing, Empowering, and Uniting a diverse generation of civically engaged young social entrepreneurs with the skills, networks, analysis, and resources to sustainably develop our urban environments from the ground-up.
2) Building food-security in inner-city communities through the creation of community-based gardens and market farms on vacant or underutilized land.
3) Fostering economic resiliency by generating capital and creating jobs through the distribution of locally grown organic produce and the creation of small local businesses.
Business Model Statement:
PUC’s initiatives are funded through a combination of grass-roots fundraising, grants, and earned income generated from educational and landscaping contracts and the distribution of our products.
